Amari Cooper was awarded SEC Freshman of the Week Honors after finishing with 7 catches for an Alabama freshman record of 162 yards and two touchdowns.

This is his first SEC Freshman of the Week award, although he was given an honorable mention after receiving two touchdowns at Ole Miss.

Amari is Alabama’s leading receiver. He has 28 catches for 425 yards, and another Alabama freshman record of 5 touchdowns.

Cj Mosley, Alabama’s star linebacker, is one of twelve semifinalists for the Butkus award that goes to the nation’s top linebacker.

Mosley leads Alabama with 58 tackles, 3.5 of which have gone for a loss. He has two interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown. He’s also forced and recovered a fumble.

He is one of three semifinalists from the SEC - LSU’s Kevin Minter and Georgia’s Jarvis Jones also made the list.

The full list can be seen here. The list of candidates began with 51, now down to the 12 semifinalists.

Rolando McClain won the award for the Tide in 2009, and Derrick Thomas received the award in 1988.

AJ McCarron a semi-finalist for Davey O'Brien Award

He is one of sixteen semi-finalists up for the Davey O’Brien Award as the nation’s best quarterback. Two other QBs from the SEC are also up for the award - Aaron Murray and Johnny Manziel.

A national selection committee picked the semi-finalists along with 5% of the decision being made up by a fan vote. The committee considered the following criteria in determining the semi-finalists: quarterback skills, athletic ability, academics, character, leadership and sportsmanship.
